The new year at MEDEX Northwest begins with the announcement of a significant change in program leadership. Terry Scott, MPA, PA-C, DFAAPA, has transitioned out of the role of Program Director, a position he has held since 2011, and Section Head, held since 2015. The eighth Program Director over the course of its 57-year history, Terry Scott’s affiliation with MEDEX Northwest reaches back to 1991, when he entered the MEDEX program as a student of Seattle Class 25 (1993). He joined MEDEX faculty as Lecturer in 1996, and went on to lead the Clinical Team for over a decade before assuming his most recent leadership roles. He will continue his commitment to MEDEX Northwest as an Associate Professor of Family Medicine in the UW School of Medicine.
In a letter sent to MEDEX faculty and staff announcing the transition, Dr. Paul James, Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, writes that over the years, “Terry Scott has provided transformative leadership and served as the pivotal force behind many successes within our MEDEX program. I am deeply grateful to Terry for his vision and leadership that centered our MEDEX program with a commitment to education that empowers our students to fulfill the promise established by our MEDEX founder, Dr. Richard Smith.”

Assuming the role of Interim Section Head and Program Director is Department of Family Medicine and MEDEX Associate Professor Daytheon Sturges, PhD, MPAS, PA-C, DFAAPA, MCHES®. Dr. Sturges has been a PA since 2008, and currently practices family medicine. A PA educator since 2014, he has served as a clinical coordinator, academic director, associate program director, and vice chair. He joined MEDEX Northwest in the fall of 2019, and currently serves as a Director-at-Large for the PA Education Association. “Dr. Sturges brings important training, experience, and enthusiasm to this role,” writes Dr. James. “I am confident in his ability to hear the many voices across our diverse MEDEX campuses to empower each of you and to support our MEDEX students.”
