In 2021, PA education will be undergoing a change nationally. At this time, all PA programs must grant master’s degrees at the completion of the program. With this shift coming in just a few years, MEDEX is taking steps to meet this change.

The degree options offered through the MEDEX training sites have changed. In 2013, the MEDEX Spokane site became a hybrid campus, offering both the bachelor’s and master’s degree options. Beginning in the upcoming 2016-2017 application cycle, which will open in May 2016, Spokane will no longer offer the bachelor’s degree option. Spokane will join Seattle in becoming an all-master’s training site. Applicants to the bachelor’s degree option will continue to apply to MEDEX sites in Tacoma, WA and Anchorage, AK this year.

Additionally, the MEDEX Anchorage site, which has been offering the bachelor’s degree program since it opened in 2009, will become a hybrid site in the upcoming 2016-2017 application cycle. This means that qualifying applicants for the master’s degree option will now have the ability to train in Anchorage. Anchorage will continue to accept bachelor’s students, who will study alongside the master’s students at this site.

There are no changes to the MEDEX Seattle site, which will continue to be open to master’s applicants, and the MEDEX Tacoma site, which will continue to be open to bachelor’s applicants, in the 2016-2017 admissions cycle. Tacoma will offer a master’s option in addition to the bachelor’s option in a future year.
