Health Services Director – Mary's Place

Mary’s Place provides safe and inclusive shelter and services for women, children and
families on their journey out of homelessness. We operate a women’s drop-in day center
and several 24×7 family centers/shelters across King County. We serve hundreds of families
– moms, dads, and children – by providing a safe place for them to be inside and together at
night, along with food, showers, clothing, and access to housing, employment, and wellness
resources.

Position Description

The Health Services Clinical Director provides leadership for the Mary’s Place health
services program, as well as clinical management and patient care for Mary’s Place guests.
They act as an educator and advocate, representing Mary’s Place to other organizations,
leading partnership discussions and advocating for guest health.



This position reports to the Chief Program Officer. The Clinical Director supervises:

  • The Health Services Administrative Director, who supervises the full-time Care
    Coordinator
  • Two part-time staff RNs
  • Volunteer medical staff providing care in Mary’s Place clinics at our shelter locations



This is an exempt, salaried position that is either part- or full-time depending on the
candidate. Salary negotiable DOE.



The position is primarily based at four shelter locations (Burien, White Center,
Kenmore/Northshore and North Seattle). Presence at other shelter locations may be
required as necessary (Shoreline and several sites in Downtown Seattle). The Clinical
Director will have established regular work hours with occasional evening and weekend
hours as needed.



Key Responsibilities

Clinical (80%):

  • Provide overall clinical management of Health Services Team in collaboration with the
    Health Services Administrative Director
  • Provide oversight of all clinical care delivered at Mary’s Place by both internal and
    external healthcare providers
  • Provide direct patient care for guests on-site as needed
  • Act as clinical point of contact for outside healthcare institutions regarding shelter
    referrals and accommodations

Program Development (15%):

  • Develop relationships with hospitals, community health centers, and other community
    agencies to improve healthcare delivery and support of our guests
  • Provide clinical consultation as needed for staff education and training, including
    medical volunteers
  • Provide crisis management as needed and emergency protocol for shelter sites

Administrative (5%):

  • Maintain appropriate records, documentation, and statistics in collaboration with
    Administrative Director
  • Provide consultation as needed for health-related development opportunities, such as
    grant writing
  • Provide consultation as needed for health-related emergency procedures and policies
    for healthy shelter environments

Education, Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Current WA State Medical license (MD/ARNP)
  • 3+ years’ experience in healthcare leadership, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated success in problem solving, conflict mediation, and crisis management
  • Exhibits compassion and empathy and works well with parents and children from all
    ethnic, social, economic and sexual orientation backgrounds
  • Well versed in Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing philosophies
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, possesses a positive attitude and sense of
    humor
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to the Mary’s Place mission of supporting
    women, children and families on their journey out of homelessness. Previous work with
    homeless population desired
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and maintain calm demeanor in a chaotic setting
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • CPR certification
