The Spokane Classroom

The classroom and offices of MEDEX Spokane are housed in the recently refurbished Spokane Inland Empire Railroad Building (SIERR), which is situated on the southern edge of the Gonzaga University campus. The historic SIERR building is adjacent to the new UW-GU Health Partnership facility, home to the UW School of Medicine and to Gonzaga’s Department of Human Physiology. With its exposed brick vibe and super tall windows, the Spokane classroom provides a pleasant and inviting learning environment. It’s a flexible learning space as well, one that supports both in-person lectures, demonstrations, workshops and group work, and virtual connections with preceptors, providers, lecturers and experts throughout the region.

Getting Around

Automobiles remain the primary means of transportation in and around Spokane, and there is convenient parking adjacent to the SIERR building available to MEDEX Spokane students. Public alternatives to driving include Spokane Transit, which provides bus routes throughout Spokane and adjacent communities, and the new electric City Line bus rapid transit system which connects Gonzaga University and the surrounding University District to areas throughout the city, including downtown Spokane. Spokane is busily improving walking and bicycling opportunities and safety for its residents as well.

Spokane and the Inland Empire

The second largest city in the state of Washington, Spokane is large enough to have plenty going on year-round and yet small enough to be friendly, livable and easy to explore. Its resurgent downtown supports a vibrant arts community, alongside breweries, wine tasting rooms, live music, and independent restaurants. It is the shopping, banking and commercial hub of the surrounding region known as the Inland Empire, which includes eastern Washington, northern Idaho, western Montana, and the lower parts of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. The region boasts a jaw-dropping landscape of rivers, lakes, mountains, and desert, with four beautiful seasons. In short, life in Spokane and the surrounding area is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream: boating, skiing, camping, canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting, hiking, trail walks, and lots more.
