My fascination with biology germinated in summers on a sheep ranch, while volunteering in a radiology lab, from an endearment to endurance sports that far exceeded my ability, and from a childhood no horror movies rule assuaged by a high school field trip to a human dissection lab.

Feeding and following these interests (except the movies) led me to graduate research in disability policy, biophysics, and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. I taught high school biology before becoming a PA, and have worked in primary care and urgent care since. Changing what I can to correct past inequalities is an ongoing internal and external process.

Outside of clinic and academics, I try not to over-answer when my kids have science questions (unless I want them to quickly leave the room). They and my wife are sources of wisdom and meaning. I’m grateful to help with and witness their wins and tough growth moments. I also find the rush of triathlons, time on a yoga mat, backpacking mountain trails, playing the euphonium, and writing sci-fi & fantasy novels to be sources of rejuvenation.
