D.J. Smith, PA-C

Associate Teaching Professor,
Interim Associate Program Director of Academic Affairs

After growing up in Michigan and attending high school in Tampa, Florida, I served in the U.S. Army special operations community as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant for most of my military career which included multiple deployments throughout Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, and Africa. While on active duty at Fort Lewis, I was able to obtain my undergraduate degree from UW and after retirement from the military, I returned to the University of Washington to attend physician assistant training in MEDEX Seattle Class 46.

My PA career has always been building my clinical practice in urgent care and emergency medicine, while simultaneously teaching as an EMS and wilderness medicine educator and a member of the Seattle didactic faculty at MEDEX. My academic interests include trauma and emergency medicine, clinical and technical skills, simulation training, team and problem-based learning. When not teaching or working clinically, I enjoy spending time with our family in the mountains or at the ballfield.
