Teaching Professor, Didactic Faculty

My career as a PA began in 1994 after working for 10 years as an American Sign Language medical interpreter. Family medicine was my calling. Working with multiple generations of the same family offered rare glimpses into my patients’ lives. I also spent several years working with Veteran’s at the VA Medical Center and a one-year stint working part-time in a women’s prison.

Realizing that one of my most cherished parts of the patient encounter was the opportunity to educate, I transitioned quickly to teaching, taking my first faculty role in 1997. I was recruited to start a PA program in 2000. Once that program was up and running, I took a year off for a cross-country road trip from New Hampshire to Alaska, where my husband and I spent the next 10 months falling in love with our northernmost state. Upon our return home in 2013, I became the founding director of MGH Institute of Health Professions’ PA program in Boston.

Having fulfilled my goals as an administrator and leader, in 2023 I was ready to return to my roots, teaching, and as luck would have it, MEDEX had a space for me to do just that. I’m thrilled to be a part of this historic program with justice at the core of its mission.
