The WWAMI Region Family Medicine Residency Network is a group of 32 core family medicine residency programs and 11 rural training tracks/programs, related to each other through university affiliation and located within the WWAMI region – Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.

Intealth® just announced the appointment of two new members who will join their Board of Trustees in January 2026, one of which is a valued FMRN faculty member and our Associate Director of Developing Programs, Dr. Dave Evans.

Per Intealth, Dr. Evans brings “extensive experience in medical education, training, and assessment that will further strengthen Intealth’s mission to advance quality in health professions education worldwide.”

The Family Medicine Education Advisory Board held their annual meeting this week, and had some great discussions on supporting family medicine training in WA state!

FMRN Director Dr. Grace Shih, in collaboration wit

FMRN Director Dr. Grace Shih, in collaboration with University of Washington Faculty Dr. Tomoko Sairenji, has been working on a faculty development program for Fujita Health University Family Medicine - the largest family medicine training program in Japan. For the past 2 years they have been doing faculty development, covering topics such as feedback, curriculum development, precepting, adult learning principles, and family medicine scholarship. So far 20 faculty have participated in their programming.

Amanda Weidner, MPH, and David Evans, MD, from the Network team recently co-authored, ‘Faculty Development in New and Emerging Rural Residency Programs’, with the objective to characterize types of faculty development that new rural residency programs with RRPD awards are using, describe typical structures of these programs, and assess differences by specialty, region, size, or program structure.
