Rural primary care workforce: a state-level analysis
Abstract
Tracking trends in the rural health care workforce is critical for identifying potential gaps and developing targeted solutions to ensure an optimal supply of health professionals to care for rural communities. This project will describe each state’s primary care workforce supply, including family physicians, general internists, general pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, in each state’s rural and urban counties. State and local governments, organizations, and advocates may utilize this data to describe the rural workforce in their state, with comparisons to the rural and urban workforce supply nationally.
A select number of states are currently available. Additional states will be added soon.
