Biography
Dr. Janessa M. Graves, PhD MPH is a health services researcher and Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine in School of Medicine at University of Washington (UW). She is the Director of the WWAMI Rural Health Research Center, which is housed within the Department of Family Medicine. She also co-directs the Outreach Core at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (HIPRC) and is the Program Director for the Occupational Health Services Research Training Program with the UW Northwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety (NWCOHS) and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health.Dr. Graves has expertise in access to healthcare services among rural and underrepresented populations. Her work has informed state and federal health policies to improve access to and quality of healthcare services for high-needs populations, including mental health services for rural youth. Dr. Graves actively leads several ongoing research projects, has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in medical and public health journals, and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Rural Health and Preventing Chronic Disease. Prior to UW, Dr. Graves served on the faculty at Washington State University's College of Nursing for over a decade. Dr. Graves completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric injury within the Department of Pediatrics at UW and the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center. She received her PhD in health services research and her MPH in environmental and occupational health from the UW School of Public Health and a BA in Environmental Biology from Columbia University.
