Physician Supply Reports from 5 States

Five reports on the 2021 physician workforce across the WWAMI states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho were recently published by Center for Health Workforce Studies (CHWS) with support from the WWAMI Area Health Education Center at the University of Washington. Using data from the American Medical Association Masterfile, these reports provide state-specific information on the following: number of physicians overall and by specialty within each state, distribution of physicians by county and by urban versus rural areas, number of physicians relative to the size of the population, and locations of medical school and residency programs from which physicians graduated. These reports build on previously published reports from UW CHWS on the physician workforce in 2014 and 2016. Access each of the 5 state-specific reports here: Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.
