MCH Workforce Index
Summary numeric ranking of states according to their policies which support the MCH workforce
The availability of a trained and supported maternal and child health (MCH) workforce is a critical part of ensuring respectful care and improving pregnancy, postpartum, and birth outcomes in the United States. While there has been increasing interest in understanding and supporting this workforce, greater investment is needed to ensure access to and availability of this workforce for comprehensive obstetric services. This tool – the MCH Worker Supportive Policy Index (“MCH Workforce Index”) – provides information for states, policymakers, and other decision-makers on where states excel in supporting this workforce, how they compare to other states, and opportunities for additional state policies targeted towards MCH workforce development and support.
