Insurance navigators support the advancement of health equity

Insurance navigators help individuals sign up for health insurance coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The Insurance Navigator Program, originally funded through the Affordable Care Act, was recently injected with $80 million via the Biden Administration through 2024. In a recent issue of the Journal of Public Health Management and Practicea team of UW CHWS researchers published findings from 24 interviews with directors and other professionals at organizations funded through federally certified Insurance Navigator Programs to understand the work Navigators do and how organizations have strategized to continue providing services despite an unstable funding environment. Study authors Drs. Marieke van Eijk and Paula Kett further describe what can be done to support insurance navigators in the advancement of health equity in a recent blog post.
