Travel nurses in high demand as health workforce shortages increase nationwide

The health care industry has lost thousands of workers since the beginning of the pandemic for a number of reasons including early retirement and competition from other sectors. To fill in workforce gaps, hospitals are turning to travel companies to find nurses according to Washington Post article published on 12/6/2021. Nurses who have flexibility to move may benefit from this arrangement by getting nearly three time higher pay. Director Bianca Frogner is quoted saying that the growth in the use of travel nurses is a symptom of a larger problem – lack of centralized workforce planning.
