Biography
Tara Zimmerman has served as Communications Manager for the department since December 2019. In this role Tara is responsible for internal departmental communication including newsletters and other cross-sectional tools that build community across our large, segmented department, and external communications including social media, website messaging, and more to bring visibility to the work of the department and encourage interest by prospective students, residents, funders, partners, and employees.Prior to coming to UW Medicine, Tara worked for over 17 years in sustainable agriculture and natural resources at Washington State University in the Extension system. She has broad experience in outreach and engagement with stakeholders and enjoys tailoring information and messaging toward specific audiences. Tara earned her MS from what is now the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at University of Washington and her BA in biology from Whitman College. She served as a secondary school math and science teacher in the Solomon Islands for two years with Peace Corps and continues to be passionate about travel, exposure to new cultures and ideas, and service to others.
Tara enjoys cooking, camping, hiking, and tidepooling with her family, and is enjoying a budding new interest in birding with her teenage son.
