Developing a Chronic Opioid Registry to Care for Primary Care Patients on Chronic Opioids

We used electronic health record data to understand the characteristics of patients prescribed chronic opioids from 2 health systems in Virginia. We then sought to pilot a chronic opioid registry with primary care clinicians and interviewed 20 clinicians about the utility of a chronic opioid registry.

This study seeks to understand the barriers and facilitators to implementing and providing integrated behavioral health by family physicians. We will conduct 40 semi-structured qualitative interviews with family physicians in settings with low rates of behavioral health integration such as the U.S. South and independently-owned practices.
