This study investigated the implications of declining medical school interest in primary care careers as it impacts rural and underserved areas. The study examined data from the American Association of Medical Colleges, the 2005 American Medical Association Masterfile, and the American Osteopathic Association Masterfile, as well as survey data from residency directors and students to describe recent trends in medical school interest and national match rates for family medicine and primary care.
