Communities with High Rates of Pharmacy Closures: Impact on the Pharmacy Workforce

Description:

The impact of pharmacy closures on patients and communities has drawn much recent attention, yet few have studied the impact of closures on the pharmacy workforce (e.g., pharmacists and pharmacy technicians). While states have taken steps to reduce pharmacy closures, including limiting the influence of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and their networks, little is known about how these regulations affect the workforce. Building on prior UW CHWS studies on the pharmacy workforce, this study aims to examine the effects of community pharmacy closures and state PBM regulations on the local pharmacy workforce.
