Characteristics of Apprentices Who Completed a Federally Registered Apprenticeship Program for Selected Allied Health Occupations by State Since 2015

Description:

Apprenticeships have been shown to provide effective pathways for successful entry into several allied health occupations, allowing potential employees to learn the skills they need and familiarize themselves with their desired employer while still earning a wage (“earn-while-you-learn” employment preparation). However, little is known about the characteristics and initial job prospects for workers who complete an apprenticeship in a health care occupation compared to those who pursue more traditional educational pathways. This study will compare apprenticeship completers to post-secondary graduates in the same occupation by demographics, prior educational attainment, rates of successful job placement after completion, and starting wages. This builds on an in-progress UW CHWS study and prior work describing the use of apprenticeships for allied health careers.
