Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Projects

Description:

Established in 1989, the Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP) is a 4-week rotation, elective program that sends rising second-year University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) students to rural and underserved communities across Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WWAMI). The goals of the program are to expose students to the challenges of practicing primary care medicine in rural and urban underserved settings and to give them an opportunity to gain experience in community health care system practices.
