Is Primary Care in Trouble?

Abstract

Summer is a time of transition in medicine as a cohort of residents enter thephysician workforce and another cohort begins their residency.

At a recent gathering of program directors of family medicine residencies, I heard shared concerns about the cumulative effects of recent residency outcomes, federal actions, and local market activities on the future of the primary care workforce.

They are justified in their concern.
