Is AI Coming for Healthcare Jobs?
Abstract
If you watched any part of the Super Bowl (Go Hawks!), you likely saw one of the many (and I mean many) ad spots promoting the numerous ways AI can improve your life.
Commentators have noted that this type of hype is reminiscent of the dot.com era.
Am I saying I can foresee the future of AI and the AI wave is over for healthcare? Absolutely not!
Are we not just beginning to unlock the power of AI and deliver on all the promises to achieve higher quality of care, better access, lower costs, and happy healthcare providers? I hope so!
As the initial buzz of AI wears off and more people experiment with these tools (even my 80-year-old mom recently exclaimed that she’s discovered Google’s Gemini and loves it), now comes the hard work of separating the wheat from the chaff.
We cannot afford to be passive about healthcare AI adoption and need to start thinking ahead at the impact of AI on the lives of some of the prime targets of these technologies – physicians, pharmacists, nurses, medical assistants, medical coders, among others.
