Dr. Samira Farah, MD
Faculty Director, UW FMIG

Dr. Samira Farah, MD is a family physician at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. She has served as the Faculty Director of the UW FMIG and the Underserved Pathway since 2024. Dr. Farah completed medical school at UW and residency at Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington.

 

Dr. Farah was born in Somalia and raised in Kent, Washington with her four siblings by their mother. She has always had a drive to give back to under-resourced and marginalized communities through volunteering and leadership in programs whose missions are overcoming inequality in health and social justice.

Ivan Henson
Manager, UW FMIG

Ivan Henson manages the Department of Family Medicine, Medical Student Education section, where he has worked since 2012. Ivan is an academic advisor and an advisor for the UW FMIG as well as managing the Family Medicine Sub-Internship. Ivan is passionate about training the next generation of family physicians and finds working with medical students immensely rewarding.

 

Originally from Oregon, Ivan enjoys gardening, travel, and anything to do with nature.

Alisse Cassell headshot

Alisse Cassell
Staff Advisor, UW FMIG

Alisse Cassell is a staff advisor for students of the UW FMIG. She loves connecting students with family physicians and other resources, helping students coordinate events, and continuing to learn about all the ways that family physicians are critical for the health of our communities. Alisse also manages the Underserved Pathway and supports the Washington AHEC program office.

 

Alisse passionately pursues all kinds of adventures in the mountains, but most especially ones involving backcountry skiing, mountaineering, and gravel biking. When she is indoors, she enjoys reading and writing.
