Leadership Training for FMIG Students

CHAP staff survey the Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) student leads at the beginning of each school year to learn about their leadership training needs and interests.

Throughout the year at monthly FMIG meetings, students engage in mini-workshops on a variety of leadership topics led by CHAP staff, faculty, and other UWSOM students. Examples of topics in the 2022-2023 school year include:

– Planning and leading productive meetings

– Advocacy for health equity: letters to the editor

– Facilitation and navigating conflict

– Skills inventories

Program Evaluation

Students are prompted to evaluate each CHAP activity to gauge its effectiveness and contributions to students’ leadership skill sets and to allow space for student feedback. The feedback is used on an ongoing basis to create programming that is relevant, effective, and engaging for students.
