The FM Clerkship has developed a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) through the ABFM using the Teaching Physicians website. This web-based module will focus on providing additional learning on how to give feedback to medical students in a learning environment. Providing students with feedback on their patient interactions and medical knowledge will improve patient outcomes, including communication, diagnosis, and treatment.  The module emphasizes the principles of feedback, data measurement, and improvement cycle methodology, as required by ABFM.

This module utilizes the Teaching Physicians Website Module on Feedback as its core curriculum to build foundational skills in delivering effective feedback. It includes a pre-test to gauge initial understanding of the purpose of feedback, various feedback methods, and strategies to enhance feedback quality.

The module, accessible under the Feedback section, is divided into three key areas:

1. Principles of Feedback – foundational concepts and importance of feedback.
2. Learner Feedback Skills – essential techniques for giving feedback to learners.
3. Feedback Models – structured approaches for delivering feedback effectively.

Upon completing these sections, you will be expected to apply these feedback skills in a clinical setting and take the post-test, which includes questions aimed at reinforcing the understanding of feedback’s purpose, diverse methods, and areas for improvement.

Additionally, a reflection question will be included to assess any changes in your approach to teaching medical students, specifically in terms of applying the feedback principles and techniques learned in this module.

Below you will find a link to the Pre-test which is the first step of this MOC process. Upon completion, you will receive the Teaching Physician url and login information with instructions on how to complete the Feedback modules. Once you have completed those then you may take the Post-test to test your knowledge.

  • Pre-Test: Complete this test to begin the MOC process.
  • Post-Test: Complete this test after you have completed the pre-test and the Teaching Physician Feedback Modules.

If you have any questions about the process please reach out to fmclerk@uw.edu.
