Biography:
Dr. LaTonya J. Trotter is a sociologist of work whose research examines how workplace structures shape ethical decision-making and contribute to racial, economic, and gender inequality in healthcare. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington, she brings an institutional lens to questions of professional responsibility and the organization of care. Her scholarship has been recognized by organizations including the American Public Health Association, the British Sociological Association, and the American Sociological Association. Her book, More Than Medicine: Nurse Practitioners and the Problems They Solve for Patients, Health Care Organizations, and the State (Cornell University Press, 2020) received the 2022 Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness Book Prize from the British Sociological Association.
Dr. Trotter serves on the editorial board of the American Sociological Review, is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Organizational Sociology, and is a board member for the Johns Hopkins University Press Health Communication Series.
