Understanding Family Physicians’ Role in Improving Access to Obstetric Services and Impacts on Community Birth Outcomes

Description:

Family physicians play an essential role providing obstetric (OB) care, particularly in rural communities, but the proportion of family physicians providing OB services has declined steadily for at least the past 20 years. This study will describe longterm trends in OB care by family physicians; background, practice, and community characteristics associated with continuing or ceasing to provide this care; and the connection between the availability of OB care by family physicians and community birth outcomes.
