Physician Partnership with the Behavioral Health Workforce to Treat Patients with Behavioral Health Conditions in Rural and Urban Areas

Description:

Rural physicians providing behavioral health care (mental and substance use disorder care) to their patients often lack the specialty referral services and behavioral health partners available to urban physicians. This study will analyze data from the 2022 Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) National Sample Survey of Physicians to improve understanding of how rural physicians engage with behavioral health providers as a critical first step to identifying needed supports to ameliorate rural/urban treatment disparities.
