States have been expanding scope of practice for health professionals, including nurse practitioners, as a way to increase access to care for patients. Despite growing evidence on the benefits of scope of practice expansion, a few states are considering restrictions in practice. CHWS Director Bianca Frogner was quoted saying, “Rather than blaming the nurse practitioners for filling in some gaps where they’re certainly needed, we should be asking why we can’t get enough physicians into some of these communities to begin with.”
