Introduction to Mindfulness: Practical and Scientific Underpinnings – Dec 3-17

Irakli Soulakvelidze, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine; Affiliate Member, Osher Center for Integrative Medicine will offer an introduction to mindfulness course through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Dr. Soulakvelidze specializes in treating all kinds of chronic pain and is particularly interested in spinal and neuropathic pain and complex regional pain syndrome. His long-time interest has been studying the scientific and medical underpinnings of contemplative traditions of mindfulness and compassion. This interest led him to pursue teacher training in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR).

The course will include the origins and definitions of mindfulness, practical aspects of mindfulness meditation, including formal and informal practices, real application of mindfulness meditation in life itself, including life’s difficulties and stresses, especially in modern times , and applications of mindfulness in such diverse fields as: medicine, neurosciences, education, inter-personal relationships.

The course will be held on three Thursdays, from December 3, 2020 to December 17, 2020 at

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM. The cost of the course if $40.00
