Alumni Gift supports Dr. Kimberly Harmon’s Platelet-Rich Plasma Research

UW alumni Jack (BA, ’61) and Luellen (BFA, ’66) Charneski of Olympia have made a generous gift to support Dr. Kimberly Harmon’s platelet-rich plasma research (PRP).

Dr. Harmon is the director of the primary-care sports medicine fellowship at UW Medicine. She is a nationally- and internationally-recognized leader in the field of regenerative medicine, including biological therapies research.
Jack and Luellen are avid Husky fans and longtime supporters of UW Medicine. They credit the education that they received at UW for their success in guiding their family business, L & E Bottling Company, for many years and preserving it for the next two generations. L & E provides beverage supply, equipment and service for Pepsi products in Thurston, Lewis and Mason counties.
Jack and Luellen were motivated to give to Dr. Harmon’s research because of its promising application to the treatment of conditions caused by the breakdown of cartilage, namely arthritis. Dr. Harmon will use the funds to better understand how biological treatments like platelet-rich plasma can improve the quality of life for both active people and people who wish to stay healthy and pain-free as they age.
