It is with heavy hearts and a great deal of respect and deference that we share with you the death of John P. Geyman, MD, on May 28, 2026, at the age of 95.
Dr. Geyman was a true trailblazer for family medicine. He helped establish family medicine as a specialty in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was a founder of the first research journal focused on family medicine, The Journal of Family Practice, and was the second chair of the UW Department of Family Medicine. He was a rural family doctor and a tireless advocate for healthcare reform and single-payer national health coverage.
Dr. Geyman’s remarkable life is described by his family in his obituary in the Journal of the San Juan Islands.
