{"id":3858,"date":"2021-04-15T12:42:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T19:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/familymedicine.uw.edu\/rhrc\/?p=3858"},"modified":"2026-01-30T12:11:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T20:11:21","slug":"allison-cole-awarded-nih-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familymedicine.uw.edu\/rhrc\/2021\/04\/15\/allison-cole-awarded-nih-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Allison Cole Awarded $2.9 Million NIH Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Alison Cole\" src=\"https:\/\/familymedicine.uw.edu\/rhrc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/04\/Allison-Cole-Head-Shot-2014-RS.jpg\" style=\"width:200px; padding:10px; float:right\">The WWAMI RHRC congratulates our colleague, Allison Cole, MD, MPH, and her team for their $2.9 million NIH R01 grant award, \u201cRural Community Support for Colonoscopy.\u201d The study will trial the effectiveness of methods to follow up on positive fecal occult blood tests (FIT) to ensure patients complete colonoscopies and will help the highest risk low-income rural populations increase colonoscopy completion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Appropriate screening can reduce CRC mortality, including colonoscopy, which is recommended for patients with a positive FIT result.
