At the University of Washington School of Medicine, he is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and serves as Program Director for the MEDEX Northwest PA Program.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sturges received his BS in biology from Louisiana Tech University, his BS in Physician Assistant and Master of PA Studies from LSU Health \u2013 Shreveport, and his Ph.D. in health studies (community health promotion and health education) with a focus on higher education from Texas Woman\u2019s University, where he also completed a post-master\u2019s certificate in health informatics.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sturges\u2019s academic and research interests include the intersection of medicine and social justice; the influence of the John Henryism and Sojourner Syndrome constructs on stress, coping, and health outcomes in Black Americans; burnout in underrepresented in medicine faculty; health promotion and education; and the role of determinants of health in clinical decision- making. He is a past recipient of the PA Education Association\u2019s Rising Star Award and was recently awarded the 2023 Diversity Award by the American Academy of Physician Associates. Dr. Sturges currently serves as a Director-at-Large on the PA Education Association Board of Directors. He currently serves on the University of Washington Faculty Senate as Department of Family Medicine Senator and co-chairs the Department of Family Medicine JEDI Committee. At MEDEX, Dr. Sturges is active in the delivery of instructional material and administration. Outside of work, he is active in the community most notably through his professional organizations and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for which he serves as the advisor for the Alpha Xi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. seated at the University of Washington.
