A total of 1301 candidates submitted applications for acceptance to MEDEX Northwest in 2020. Of these candidates, 140 were accepted into the program.
MEDEX Northwest continues the tradition of training minority students. Of the accepted students, 45.7% are from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Among the 140 students in the 2020 incoming class: 5.0% self-identified as Black or African American, 4.3% American Indian/Alaska Native, 28.6% Asian/Other Asian, and 3.5% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.
The percentage of students with military experience selected for the 2020 entering class is 9%.
The history of the PA profession and MEDEX Northwest began with military medics and corpsmen. To continue this tradition of providing PA education to military medical personnel, MEDEX is committed to creating opportunities, to participating in outreach activities with a focus on building a strong military applicant pool, and to providing PA training to current and former military members.
MEDEX is a regional program committed to training students from Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI). The percentage of students accepted in 2020 from the WWAMI+Hawaii region is 79%. This breakout includes: 49% Washington, 1% Wyoming, 12% Alaska, 5% Montana, 6% Idaho, and 7% Hawaii.
The age of MEDEX students ranges from 21 to 51 with the mean age of 30.

First-time applicants accounted for 64% of the 2020 accepted class, and reapplicants make up 36%.
