Dr. Darron T. Smith has over two decades of health care experience as a physician assistant and US Army veteran. Dr. Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in primary care and psychiatry to the MEDEX program. He is certified as a MAPS-trained MDMA-assisted therapist and his scholarly work focuses on racial oppression, systemic inequality, healthcare inequities, family dynamics (particularly transracial adoption), and broader cultural and political structures.
Dr. Smith’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and books such as The Journal of Black Studies, Democracy and Education, Adoption Quarterly, The Journal of Health Services Research & Policy, Journal of Black Masculinity, Cultural Studies, and Health Services Research. He is a co-author of “White Parents, Black Children: Understanding Adoption and Race” (2011) and the author of “When Race, Religion & Sports Collide: Black Athletes at BYU and Beyond” (2016). His current research explores race-based PTSD and the potential therapeutic use of plant-based medicine.
Additionally, Dr. Smith works as a neurofeedback clinician, providing brain training to patients with neurodevelopmental and mood disorders.
