UW Medicine Newsroom recently spotlighted a UW CHWS study on how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the racial and ethnic diversity of the health workforce. Led by UW CHWS Director Bianca Frogner in collaboration with UW CHWS Affiliate Investigators LaTonya Trotter and Kyla Woodward and researchers at the University of Minnesota, the study analyzed data from the Current Population Survey to examine trends in median earnings among health care workers during the period 2015–24.
Published in Health Affairs, the study found the workers in the lowest-earning occupations in the health care professions experienced gains of approximately 13 percent in this period, significantly higher than other groups.
