UW CHWS Director Quoted in Medscape Article on Healthcare Workforce Projections by Mercer Consulting Firm

Mercer, an American HR consulting firm, recently published a report on the future of the U.S. healthcare industry, which projects that the American healthcare workforce will face a small shortfall in 2028 — a shortage of less than 1% of all employees.

UW CHWS Director Bianca Frogner was taken aback by the report’s projection of a 48,000 home health/personal care aide national surplus. “We are seeing increasing movement of investments toward moving patients out of skilled nursing facilities and keeping them in the home and community, which requires many more home health aides,” she said. “Given such high turnover in this occupation, it’s hard to know if the surplus is really a surplus or if they will quickly be employed.” Read the full article here.
