Dr. Poon is the Sports Medicine Family Medicine Fellow at the University of Washington. He completed his Family Medicine residency at Wake Forest University and graduated medical school at Tufts University. He will be speaking on “Mindfulness, Health and the Athlete.”

Dr. Capote graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University and obtained her dental degree from the University of Connecticut. As a dental student, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and was selected as an ADEA/AADR Academic Dental Careers Fellow, completing a year-long program that fostered her interest in an academic dental career. Dr. Capote earned her Certificate in the specialty of orthodontics, as well as a Master of Science in Dentistry and a Master of Public Health, at the University of Washington. Dr. Capote is appointed by the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (University of Washington’s CTSA) to a 5-year NIH KL2 training grant. As a faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics, Dr. Capote participates in intramural clinical practice, teaching, professional service, and research. She has worked with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association to raise awareness for prevention and appropriate emergency management of dental injuries in young athletes. She is currently collaborating with the Harborview Injury Prevention Research Center with the goal of collecting and translating injury and treatment data into programs, policies, and education aimed at preventing, mitigating, and treating traumatic dental injuries more effectively. Her talk is an “Introduction to the epidemiology of traumatic dental injury, review the evidence on prevention, and present cases to highlight key concepts in the initial management of dental trauma.”
