TOPIC:
The Impact of Telepsychiatry Services on the Training of Rural Primary Care Teams in Integrated Behavioral Healthcare

DESCRIPTION:
Principal Investigator: Davis Patterson; Project lead: Ian M. Bennett
Building capacity for rural primary care practices to provide effective services for common mental disorders and behavioral health care is a national health priority. The consultant model of collaborative care promulgated by the University of Washington is the most highly evidence-based strategy for supporting this effort but there is wide variation in patient outcomes in sites in actual practice. Understanding the educational or training effects of this consultation model on practices could help reduce this variation by guiding efforts to enhance beneficial effects of the model. We report ongoing work with rural primary care sites participating in the Mental Health Integration Program (MHIP), funded by the Community Health Plan of Washington which: 1) identified domains of training/education associated with the consultation model of collaborative care, and 2) created a set of survey measures for these domains.
